Terms of Use
I get contacted quite frequently by pepole asking to use my artwork for one reason or another. Below are my responses and terms regarding the most frequently requested uses.  If you still have a question, or aren't sure if what you want to do falls within these terms of use, please feel free to contact me.  I'm happy to answer any questions you may have. ALSO NOTE, these terms of use are subject to change. It's up to you to check back for updates (if you subscribe to the updates mailing list, you will recieve notices when these terms are updated).

FIRST AND FOREMOST!
If you read no further, READ THIS! The one thing to which I will ALWAYS say no is to those who wish to sell prints of my work without my permission, and certainly without cutting me in on the profit. On the one hand, that is ILLEGAL, and on the other, it's extremely rude.  If you'd like to buy a print for yourself or as a gift, you can purchase them directly from me from my online prints store.

Character portraits, pictures and avatars.
I get asked this a lot more than some people might think.  "Hi, I really like your art, and want to use "This Picture" as a character portrait/avatar for an online rpg/message board/etc."  My answer to this is almost always NO. This is because I take a lot of private comissions from people who want me to draw their characters, and in my spare time, I draw my own characters. It is out of respect for the people who pay money for me to draw their characters (and possessiveness of my own characters) that I say this. If you want to use my artwork for your character avatar that badly, you're welcome to comission me.

Gallery Websites
"Hi!  I run a gallery website and would like to post some of your artwork, with credit to you and a link back to your website.  May I?"  Sure!  The only requirements are that you do, in fact, clearly label the artwork as mine (you can credit me as Kythera of Anevern), and provide an obvious link back to my website (http://anevern.artchicks.org/).  I have lots of link banners, any of which you are more than welcome to use if you'd like! If you DO add some of my work to your gallery website, please let me know!  I'd like to take a look around.  ^_^

Taggers, tubers, sig tags and related communities
"Hi, I run a tagging community and we want to know if we can use your art!" After several years of getting really defensive about this, I've finally come to realize that this really is flattery. ^_^;  I have some rules, though, which I now send to every community leader who contacts me, asking to use my work (these must be posted clearly in your community, with a link back to this page as well as my main URL):

1.You may NOT create signature tags or other such graphics for profit.

2. All images must contain the text "© Kythera of Anevern", and my
site url: http://anevern.artchicks.org/ - both items must be clearly legible.

3.
I do a lot of private comissions and illustration for professional publishers. Out of respect for the people who paid money for the artwork I created, for characters belonging to other people who do not want to see them misused, and due to the legalities surrounding work I have done for publishers, I have strict guidelines as to which art you may use, and what is off-limits:

  • You may NOT use "named" characters or self portraits - a character's name (and who they belong to, if applicable) and whether an image is a self portrait is listed in the description of each image on my site (http://anevern.artchicks.org) in the "Gallery" section. If you found the image somewhere else online, please check for in one of the "Gallery" sections.  If you can't find it or are otherwise in doubt, please ask me.

  • You may NOT use images labeled as comissions - this is also stated in the image descriptions on my website, under one of the "Gallery" sections.

  • You may NOT use work that has been previously published. All of my published work can be found in the "In Print" section of the "Gallery."  If the image you want to use is found there, don't even ask--the answer will always be NO.

4. If you create "tubes" of any of my artwork, you may NOT redistribute them via message boards, file sharing programs, ftp, and/or mailing lists or any other means of distribution.

5. As a courtesy, I request that individual artists contact me before using a specific image for sig tags, tubing, etc.
